Modern vehicles with lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking or adaptive cruise control have forward-facing cameras mounted to the windscreen. After replacement, these must be recalibrated so they read the road correctly. Recalibration costs $200 to $500 on top of the replacement.
Automatic wipers use a rain sensor attached to the glass. The replacement glass must have the correct sensor mounting, and the sensor must be reattached properly.
Heated windscreens have fine wires embedded in the glass. Replacement glass must match this feature, adding $200 to $400.
Luxury vehicles often have acoustic laminated glass for noise reduction. This premium glass costs significantly more than standard.

Most windscreen replacements take 1 to 2 hours. The urethane adhesive then needs time to cure before the vehicle is safe to drive.
